In today’s competitive market, finding the right talent is crucial in propelling your business forward. How do you out perform your competition? By out recruiting them. Finding the talent that they wish they had. Here are three tips to do just that:
#1 Discover Contenders Who Don’t Realize They’re Candidates
Sometimes the people you want are people who are not actively looking for a job. You won’t find those people by posting to a few job boards. The Field of Dreams, “build it and they will come” isn’t always true in today’s competitive market. Ways to get in front of those passive candidates: start a referral program and utilizing a search firm that has existing relationships with these candidates and has proven methods in finding them.
#2 Write Job Descriptions Aimed for the People You Want, Not Need.
It’s important to include the basics such as day-to-day activities but in order to find stronger candidates, go deeper within the job description. Make sure to explore company values and goals and align the job with the greater company goals. Workpop found that job descriptions shorter or longer than 700-1100 attract 19% fewer applicants. Also, as sensitive as salaries are, Workpop found that by omitting salaries from job descriptions results in 33% decrease in applications.
#3 Make the Applications Process Easy
Improving the applicant experience is important to reduce application abandonment rates. Workpop found:
- 60% of candidates have quit filling out a job application due to its length
- 37% of mobile candidates have had problems submitted the files needed to apply for a job
- Applications that take more than five minutes to fill out are 78% less likely to be completed
- 50+ applications questions will result in a 50% decrease in applicants
Above are three tips to help ensure that you’ll be able to out recruit your competition. Does it sound daunting and time consuming? It should. Recruiting the right talent is important to grow your business and you need to focus on. Finding the right passive talent, assisting in fine tuning job descriptions, and ensuring the applicant experience is seamless and easy is something that experience executive search partners have mastered.
